Overview Join our dynamic pediatric dental team as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) with a focus on pediatric dentistry! As an EFDA specializing in pediatrics, you will play a key role in supporting the dental team by performing advanced procedures, managing medical documentation, and ensuring adherence to infection control standards. Duties Assist the dentist during a variety of pediatric dental procedures, including restorations, extractions, and sealants, using four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize efficiency. Perform chairside assisting with X-ray procedures tailored for pediatric patients. Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) like Open Dental and Dentrix, ensuring accurate documentation of patient histories, treatment notes, and medical coding compliant with HIPAA regulations. Support infection control protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and maintaining a sterile environment in accordance with OSHA standards. Take patient histories, explain procedures using appropriate dental terminology, and provide post-treatment instructions suitable for children and their guardians. Maintain knowledge of anatomy relevant to pediatric dentistry to support accurate diagnosis and treatment assistance. Experience Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment, preferably with pediatric patients or in general dentistry settings involving children. Strong understanding of HIPAA guidelines related to patient privacy and medical records management. Knowledge of dental assisting techniques including infection control practices, and aseptic procedures. Ability to interpret dental and medical terminology accurately for documentation and communication purposes. Experience performing X-ray procedures Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments using four-handed dentistry methods while maintaining excellent patient care standards. Certification as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) is required; additional training in pediatrics or related specialties is advantageous.
