Duties Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical history, vital signs, and current dental conditions to ensure safe and effective treatment. Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) using digital systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix for accurate diagnosis. Provide patient education on oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and treatment options to foster long-term health habits. Assist the dentist during procedures with chairside assisting, ensuring infection control protocols (aseptic technique) are strictly followed. Review medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance with HIPAA regulations, and proper medical coding. Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by adhering to infection control standards and sterilization procedures. Document all patient interactions thoroughly in electronic medical records (EMR systems), including treatment notes and patient instructions. Requirements Valid licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in accordance with state regulations. Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings; familiarity with pediatric dentistry is a plus. Proficiency with dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for charting, scheduling, and documentation. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control practices. Ability to perform vital signs assessment and utilize medical imaging equipment confidently. Skilled in pediatric dentistry techniques and working effectively with children of all ages (pediatrics). Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach to patient assessment and education. Experience with dental assisting procedures like four-handed dentistry enhances efficiency but is not mandatory. Familiarity with HIPAA compliance, medical coding, documentation review, and EMR systems is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team while maintaining high standards of infection control and aseptic technique.
