Overview Join our dynamic dental team as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA), where you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting the clinical team with advanced dental procedures. Responsibilities -Advanced Clinical Procedures Specific restorative and preventative tasks delegated by the dentist, which typically include: Restorative Filling: Placing, carving, and finishing permanent restorations (fillings) after the dentist has prepared the tooth. Impression Taking: Utilizing 3D scanners or traditional materials to take impressions for crowns, bridges, and orthodontic appliances. Specialty Assistance: Supporting complex procedures in pediatric dentistry, endodontics (root canals), and prosthodontics-working chairside with the dentist. Diagnostics & Imaging Digital Radiography: Operating digital X-ray equipment and interpreting diagnostic images to assist in treatment planning. Vital Signs: Measuring and recording patient blood pressure, pulse, and medical history to ensure safety before procedures. Patient Care & Education Treatment Communication: Explaining dental terminology and proposed procedures to patients of all ages to reduce anxiety. Post-Op Instructions: Providing detailed guidance on oral hygiene and care following surgical or restorative appointments. Administrative & Regulatory Compliance Electronic Health Records: Managing systems like Open Dental , Dentrix , or Eaglesoft to maintain accurate, HIPAA-compliant patient files. Infection Control: Strict adherence to aseptic techniques, including the sterilization of instruments and the preparation of treatment rooms. Inter-departmental Coordination: Collaborating with the front-office reception team to ensure smooth scheduling and updated medical documentation. Qualifications Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification or license required. Proven experience in general dentistry. Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, X-ray taking, vital signs measurement, and infection control practices. Familiarity with EMR systems -preferably Open Dental Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dental care. Ability to perform advanced procedures like prosthodontics and endodontics confidently.
