Orthodontist Assistant Job Description An orthodontist assistant plays a key role in helping the orthodontist provide care for patients who are undergoing orthodontic treatments, such as braces and aligners. Job Overview: As an Orthodontist Assistant, you will support the orthodontist by assisting with patient care, preparing and maintaining the clinical environment, and performing a variety of tasks related to orthodontic procedures. Your goal is to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow while delivering exceptional patient care. Key Responsibilities: Patient Care: Assist patients during orthodontic procedures by preparing them and explaining the procedures. Take and record patient medical and dental histories. Take and develop diagnostic X-rays and photographs. Provide post-procedure instructions and care to patients. Procedure Assistance: Set up and sterilize equipment and instruments for orthodontic procedures. Assist the orthodontist during treatments such as applying and adjusting braces, placing and removing aligners, and fitting orthodontic appliances. Administrative Duties: Schedule patient appointments as needed. Maintain accurate patient records and update treatment charts. Maintenance: Ensure that the treatment area is clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies. Follow infection control protocols to maintain a sterile and safe environment. Maintain regular maintenance and testing of autoclaves and other office equipment. Labs and Scanning: Scans are correct and uploaded to the correct lab in a timely manner. Update patient notes in Dentrix as needed Patient Communication: Provide information to patients and families about orthodontic treatments, care instructions, and appliance maintenance. Address patient concerns and questions with sensitivity and professionalism.
