Job Summary The orthodontic dental assistant's responsibilities include taking directions from the Doctor, cleaning and polishing patientsâ teeth before placing braces, removing patientsâ braces upon completion of orthodontic treatments. Assistants should also anticipate which instruments and tools are needed on hand during patient appointments. To be successful as an orthodontic dental assistant, you should have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Ultimately, an exceptional orthodontic dental assistant should be able to demonstrate patience, work with efficiency, as well as having excellent communication and organization. Responsibilities and Duties Assisting the doctor chairside using 4 handed dentistry. Ensure all instruments and equipment are properly sterilized Maintain accurate records of patient care and treatment progress Take Extraoral Radiographs and intraoral photos Anticipate the needs of the patient and the doctor throughout the procedure Change Color Ties, Fit Bands, Impressions, Digital Impression Scanning, Change Wires Educate patients on proper dental hygiene 3D printing digital workflow and lab fabrication of orthodontic appliances Qualifications and Skills Good manual dexterity. Excellent organizational skills. Effective communication skills.
