An Orthodontic Assistantâs priority is excellent patient care . This job requires an outgoing, energetic personality. This position determines the patientâs overall care, comfort, and experience at Progressive Orthodontics. This job requires good hand-eye coordination, great attention to detail and confidence in accuracy. This position executes the treatment plan provided by the doctor. It is crucial that you listen to the doctorâs directions, perform the procedures correctly and efficiently, and accurately chart the patientâs visit. Job Duties/ Responsibilities An Orthodontic Assistant will be responsible for the following: Following Procedures You will follow the procedures listed in the Training Manual. The Training will guide you to follow the correct steps for each procedure. It is expected that each Orthodontic Assistant is following every procedure. We want to eliminate all shortcuts that could result in emergency visits. SDS Same Day Starts is becoming part of our culture. Our goal is to provide the new patient with the convenience of ONE visit. We want to get them in as soon as possible, no more than 15 mins wait time for SDS. We are excited for them to start treatment and so are they! Staying within Appointment Times On average, an Orthodontic Assistant can see 15-20 patients on any given day. It is important to stay within the allotted appointment time. Each Clinical Manager will run a weekly report to ensure all Orthodontic Assistants are staying within the expected procedure times. Detailed Chart Notes At the end of each visit, you will record the treatment notes in the patientâs chart. The Patientâs chart is a legal medical record. All discussions between the patient, parent, and doctor must be recorded and document what was done during the appointment. Refrain from using slang or unprofessional verbiage. The Training Manual will list the codes and verbiage to be used when documenting in the patientâs chart and scheduling. Communicating with Doctor/ Patient/ Parents Communication is key! We encourage parents to stay involved in their loved oneâs treatment by asking questions, and gage & facilitating good oral hygiene. Stay on top of delivering patient feedback, and as needed to family. This can be done in many ways, when directly walking out with the patient, by using oral hygiene videos, or by utilizing the front desk attendees to deliver any additional information to the patient and their parents. Discuss what is being done at todayâs visit and what will be done at the next visit. Always introduce yourself to the patient and parent. Talk to the patient! Ask them about their day, their favorite hobbies, sports , movies, etc. We care about our patients! Make them Feel at home. Opening/ Closing Duties The Clinical Manager will assign daily opening and closing duties. Each of the Orthodontic Assistants are responsible for completing the tasks assigned to them. Late Policy The expectations are to clock in for every shift on time each morning. The third tardy or unexpected absence in 30-days period will result in a probationary period, any violation during the probationary period, will end in a written warning and after two written warnings will result in termination.
