Responsibilities Perform thorough dental prophylaxis, including cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth to prevent decay and gum disease. Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and dental examinations to inform treatment plans. Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and comfort. Capture and review medical imaging, such as X-rays, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols are followed. Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, treatment options, and preventive care to promote lifelong dental health. Maintain accurate documentation of patient records, treatment notes, and medical histories in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems (OpenDental). Adhere strictly to infection control standards, aseptic techniques, and HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient information and ensure a sterile environment. Requirements Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice. Proven experience in general dentistry with a strong background in pediatric dentistry preferred. Proficiency in dental terminology, medical coding, and documentation review for accurate recordkeeping. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Open Dental for efficient charting and data management. Knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, infection control procedures, and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice. Ability to perform chairside assisting tasks seamlessly during dental procedures. Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach tailored to pediatric patients when necessary.
