Duties Assist dentists chairside during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies while maintaining strict aseptic techniques. Take and develop dental X-rays and utilize advanced medical imaging tools such as 3D scanners to support accurate diagnoses. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort before, during, and after treatments; provide basic patient education on oral health care. Maintain infection control protocols by sterilizing instruments, handling medical documentation properly, and adhering to OSHA standards. Support administrative tasks such as greeting patients as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, and managing medical records efficiently. Skills Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and taking accurate X-rays. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dental procedures. Experience working with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for efficient documentation and record keeping. Familiarity with infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures in a dental clinic environment. Ability to operate advanced dental technology including 3D scanners and other medical imaging devices. Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics; capable of explaining procedures clearly. Understanding of HIPAA compliance and medical coding standards for accurate billing and documentation.
