Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, supplies, and sterilized equipment, adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques. Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, providing chairside support with precision. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Manage patient records using EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, accurately documenting medical history, treatment notes, and medical coding. Educate patients on oral health care instructions, post-treatment care, and dental terminology to promote understanding and compliance. Monitor vital signs of patients when necessary, especially in pediatric or medically complex cases. Support administrative duties such as scheduling appointments as a dental receptionist, managing medical documentation, and maintaining organized medical records. Operate advanced imaging equipment like 3D scanners for comprehensive diagnostics in complex cases. Uphold strict infection control standards through proper sterilization procedures and knowledge of anatomy to assist effectively during procedures. Experience Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is essential; familiarity with general dentistry practices is highly preferred. Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, medical imaging, and taking X-rays is required. Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding enhances your ability to document accurately. Experience with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft is highly desirable; familiarity with Epic or similar platforms is a plus. Understanding of infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and anatomy knowledge ensures safe practice standards are maintained. Pediatric dentistry experience is advantageous for working effectively with young patients in a pediatric setting. Certification in dental assisting or related fields is preferred; ongoing training in HIPAA compliance and infection control is beneficial for success in this role.
