Job Title: Experienced Orthodontic Assistant Location: Melrose, MA Job Type: Full-Time or Part-Time What we are seeking: Melrose Orthodontics is quickly growing orthodontic practice that is seeking an experienced Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dynamic team and contribute to the success of our practice. Ideal candidate has 5+ years of full time orthodontic assisting experience and is excited about leading a team and caring for our amazing orthodontic patients. Individual must be reliable, open to adopting the systems of the practice, and able to work quickly, but precisely. PLEASE NOTE: Compensation package is commensurate with experience , working interview will be required to assess technical skill level and ability to communicate with patients/parents. Personality and skill level are paramount in the filling of this role. Responsibilities: Patient Care: Prepare patients for orthodontic procedures and assist the orthodontist during all treatments. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and care for orthodontic appliances. Complete all adjustment appointments with minimal assistance from the orthodontist, as allowed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (tasks that cannot be legally delegated, will not be delegated). Chairside Assistance: Set up and maintain treatment rooms for orthodontic procedures. Assist the orthodontist by providing necessary instruments and materials during treatments. Complete orthodontic adjustment appointments with accuracy and detail as directed by the orthodontist. Complete impressions and intraoral scans accurately and efficiently, capture optimal diagnostic records including clinical photos and radiographs, complete any necessary lab work accurately and efficiently. Appliance Management: Fit, adjust, and remove orthodontic appliances. Instruct patients on the correct care and maintenance of braces, retainers, and other devices. Fit bands, prepare teeth for bonding of brackets, position brackets to Doctor's optimal position, navigate comfort and emergency appointments on non-doctor days as allowed by state regulations. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including treatment plans and progress notes. Document changes in patient conditions and treatment plans. Sterilization and Infection Control: Strictly adhere to state-mandated sterilization and infection control protocols. Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Scheduling and Administrative Tasks: Schedule appointments for patients and manage the clinical calendar. Communication : Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and team members. Relay instructions from the orthodontist to patients regarding treatment plans and post-care. Continuing Education: Stay updated on the latest orthodontic techniques, procedures, and technologies. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities. Qualifications: National Dental Assistant Certification (CDA) preferred; valid Massachusetts Registered Dental Assistant required, must be presented upon accepted Letter of Employment Intent. Previous full-time experience of greater than 5 years in a busy orthodontic setting is required. Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, instruments, and materials. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. Must provide professional references and pass a background check.
