Cross-Trained Dental Assistant / Front Office Receptionist
Job Overview:
Our dental practice is seeking a versatile, cross-trained individual for a dual front-and-back office role. Your time will be primarily focused on front desk administrative duties and will include opportunities providing clinical chairside assistance to the dentist and supporting back office staff as needed. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys variety and handles multitasking with ease.
Our office is a general dental practice focused on providing excellent care to its patients. As the patient is our number one priority, we take care to create an environment that is both calming and relaxing. We are looking for an outgoing, friendly, bilingual (Spanish, English) applicant who ideally has both front and back office experience.
Front Office Duties:
- Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in and check-out procedures
- Schedule, confirm, and optimize patient appointments and recall systems
- Verify insurance eligibility and submit or track claims accurately
- Present treatment estimates and collect co-pays and balances
- Process payments and post transactions using dental management software (e.g., Open Dental, Dentrix)
- Answer incoming calls, manage emails and faxes professionally
- Maintain secure patient records and handle front office supply ordering
- Coordinate calendar management to minimize patient wait times
Back Office & Clinical Duties:
- Provide chairside assistance to the dentist during clinical procedures.
- Prepare, break down, and sterilize treatment rooms and instruments.
- Take digital dental X-rays (requires active state certification).
- Maintain accurate patient clinical records and electronic charts.
Required Qualifications
RDA or DA with
- Active Dental Assistant certification / X-ray license (required by state law).
- Experience in dental reception/front office workflows and assisting roles
- Familiarity with dental practice management software (preferrably Open Dental)
- Knowledge of insurance verification, patient scheduling, and billing processes
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask efficiently
