Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and maintaining aseptic technique to uphold infection control standards. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including digital imaging and 3D scans, ensuring accurate positioning and patient comfort. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, ensuring all documentation complies with HIPAA regulations. Obtain vital signs and medical history information to assist with comprehensive patient assessments. Support front desk duties by acting as a dental receptionist—scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and managing patient flow efficiently. Perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize treatment efficiency and patient experience. Educate patients on oral health care practices using clear dental terminology and explain procedures to ensure understanding. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment following infection control protocols and OSHA guidelines. Assist with medical documentation including coding procedures appropriately for billing purposes. Support the use of advanced technology such as intraoral cameras, dental 3D scanners, and medical imaging equipment to enhance diagnostic accuracy. Monitor patient comfort throughout procedures by providing reassurance and managing any concerns professionally. Qualifications Valid certification as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or equivalent licensure in accordance with state regulations. Proven experience working in a dental clinic setting with knowledge of general dentistry procedures. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; familiarity with medical records management is highly desirable. Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance and infection control practices within a healthcare environment. Skilled in taking X-rays (including digital imaging) and operating dental technology like 3D scanners and medical imaging devices. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and various specialties including prosthodontics, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, and medical terminology relevant to dental care. Ability to perform vital signs assessment accurately and support pediatric patients effectively. Excellent communication skills to interact confidently with patients of all ages while explaining procedures clearly. Demonstrated ability to work efficiently using four-handed dentistry techniques alongside the dentist for optimal workflow. Strong organizational skills for managing appointments, medical documentation, coding procedures accurately, and maintaining sterilization protocols.
