Responsibilities Perform comprehensive dental hygiene services including prophylaxis (cleanings), scaling, root planing, and fluoride treatments to promote oral health. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to develop personalized care plans. Assist with chairside procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort. Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and treatment options to empower them with knowledge for maintaining healthy smiles. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient records, treatment notes, and medical histories in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix. Follow strict infection control protocols including aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination and ensure patient safety in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Monitor and record vital signs during appointments to identify any health concerns that may impact dental treatment or require medical referral. Review documentation for accuracy and completeness, ensuring all procedures are correctly coded using medical coding standards for billing purposes. Collaborate seamlessly with dentists and other team members to support general dentistry procedures and optimize patient outcomes. Uphold all standards of confidentiality, privacy, and professionalism in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Qualifications Valid Dental Hygienist license in good standing with relevant state licensing boards. Proven experience working as a Dental Hygienist in a fast-paced dental office or clinic environment. Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation review and record keeping. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques. Familiarity with pediatric dentistry principles when caring for pediatric patients; experience with pediatric dentistry is highly desirable. Skilled in chairside assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry to improve workflow efficiency. Ability to take accurate medical imaging (X-rays) while adhering to safety standards. Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach tailored to diverse patient needs including pediatrics. Knowledge of medical terminology, vital signs monitoring, and basic medical assessment procedures relevant to dental practice. Understanding of HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy and data security. Experience with documentation review, medical coding, and billing processes related to dental services is preferred but not mandatory.
