Duties Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection control protocols. Perform chairside assisting with skills such as four-handed dentistry, maintaining aseptic technique and proper anatomy knowledge to promote efficient treatment flow. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray), ensuring proper positioning and safety measures in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Operate electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Open Dental or similar platforms to accurately document patient information, treatment plans, medical history, and medical coding details. Manage patient flow by greeting patients as the dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and updating medical records while maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA standards. Conduct vital signs assessments and medical imaging when necessary to support comprehensive patient evaluations. Utilize advanced tools such as 3D scanners (iTero), CBCT for prosthodontic or implant procedures when applicable. Maintain infection control standards by sterilizing instruments, managing aseptic techniques, and adhering to OSHA guidelines. Support pediatric patients by creating a friendly environment tailored to their needs while applying specialized pediatric dentistry techniques. Assist with administrative tasks including managing dental supplies inventory, processing insurance claims, and ensuring accurate documentation of medical records. Collaborate with the team to ensure compliance with all safety protocols related to medical terminology, medical documentation, and infection prevention. Experience Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred; familiarity with general dentistry procedures is essential. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR systems such as Open Dental or similar. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for patient confidentiality is mandatory. Hands-on experience with X-ray techniques, intraoral photography, and 3D scanning technology is advantageous. Strong understanding of dental terminology across specialties including prosthodontics and endodontics enhances your effectiveness in this role. Experience supporting pediatric dentistry environments is desirable; ability to work effectively with children is essential. Certification in dental assisting or equivalent training from an accredited program is preferred; ongoing professional development in infection control and medical coding is encouraged.
