Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Dental Sterilization Technician/Hygiene Assistant to join our dental practice. This role is vital in maintaining a safe, sterile environment and supporting the clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of infection control protocols, dental terminology, and medical documentation, with experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry preferred. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills in dental assisting and expand your knowledge of dental procedures and technology. Duties Properly sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and equipment following aseptic techniques and infection control standards. Assist the dental team during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort. Prepare treatment rooms by setting up necessary supplies, instruments, and materials for various dental procedures including prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatrics. Manage medical records and documentation accurately within Open Dental while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Take vital signs and assist with patient intake, including recording medical history and assisting with medical imaging procedures like X-rays and 3D scans. Support the dental team with chairside assisting during procedures involving general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, or specialized treatments. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, adhering to infection control protocols and ensuring all equipment is properly maintained. Assist with patient education regarding oral health care and post-treatment instructions. Assist with seating patients, charting for hygienists, polishing teeth, and other related duties. Skills Proficiency in Open Dental managing medical records and documentation. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality. Experience with dental terminology, medical terminology, and understanding of anatomy relevant to dentistry. Familiarity with dental imaging techniques including X-ray and 3D scanner technology. Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently in various specialties such as prosthodontics, endodontics,oral surgery or pediatrics. Strong infection control practices along with aseptic technique expertise. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in handling medical coding, records management, and clinical tasks. Effective communication skills suitable for working within a multidisciplinary dental team including dental receptionists or hygienists.
