Duties Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to maintain optimal oral health. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans. Assist with chairside procedures in general dentistry settings, providing support to dentists during examinations and treatments. Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper technique and patient safety. Manage electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems) on Dentrix for accurate documentation of patient visits, treatment notes, and medical records. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health. Follow strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a sterile environment. Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy. Support pediatric patients with specialized care tailored to their needs while maintaining a friendly and approachable demeanor. Collaborate with the dental team using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort. Assist in medical coding and documentation review for billing purposes when necessary. Maintain a clean, organized operatories environment adhering to OSHA standards for infection control and safety. Requirements Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current CPR certification. Proven experience working in dental offices or clinics with familiarity in general dentistry procedures; pediatric dentistry experience is a plus. Proficiency in dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for scheduling, charting, and record management. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques. Ability to perform detailed patient assessments including vital signs measurement and medical history review. Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively about oral health practices. Familiarity with EMR systems, medical coding, and documentation review processes. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of patient information. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment using four-handed dentistry techniques for optimal workflow.
