Permanent Dental Assistant Job in Redwood Valley, CA

Job Summary This position works directly with and under the supervision of a Dentist, providing general dental services, and assists in providing outreach services to rural areas of Mendocino or adjacent counties. Job Duties & Responsibilities · Preparing and arranging instruments, medications and required material. · Preparing patients for dental health services and instructing them in appropriate post dental treatment, diet and oral hygiene. · Promptly following all instructions from the dentist dealing with patient comfort. · Taking inventory, stocking all supplies, and instruments. · Exposing developing and processing dental x-rays and maintenance of x-ray machinery. · Performing required laboratory procedures (i.e., taking dental impressions, pouring plaster modals, etc.). · Being familiar with and using four-handed assisting technique. · Maintaining dental equipment and operatories in good, clean condition at all times. · Maintaining instruments and working areas in strict accordance with sterilization/disinfection protocols per OSHA guidelines. · Maintaining personnel protective equipment (PPE) per OSHA guidelines as it pertains to personnel safety (i.e., protective clothing, eyewear, gloves). · Participating with in-service training, department, and general staff and clinic meetings. · Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience) · High school diploma or equivalent. · Current State of California Registered Dental Assistant license. · One (1) year experience as a dental assistant; and a current CPR/BLS certification. Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience) · Three (3) years of experience as a dental assistant; and current X-ray certification. · Indian Preference applies to all Consolidated Tribal Health Project (CTHP) positions in accordance with CTHP Policy and applicable federal law. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities · Maintains knowledge of dental industry and trends, health promotion, and patient services. · Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with American Indian/Alaska Native populations. · Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants. · Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software. · Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts. · Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws, as well as CTHP policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.). · Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures. · Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines. · Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
