Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, excellent patient care skills, and proficiency with various dental software systems. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where your expertise in chairside assisting and expanded functions will directly contribute to providing exceptional patient care across general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. The EFDA will play a vital role in supporting the dentist during procedures, managing medical documentation, and ensuring infection control standards are maintained at all times. Duties Perform chairside assisting during a variety of dental procedures including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric treatments. Execute expanded functions such as coronal polishing, applying sealants, and taking impressions under dentist supervision. Take and develop X-rays and other medical imaging as required, ensuring proper infection control and aseptic techniques. Manage patient vital signs and assist with medical documentation to ensure accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Operate dental software systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic, and EMR systems for scheduling, documentation, and record keeping. Maintain sterilization protocols and infection control standards according to OSHA guidelines. Assist with medical coding and billing processes related to dental procedures when necessary. Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care instructions using clear dental terminology. Support the dental team with administrative tasks such as managing medical records and coordinating appointments with a friendly receptionist approach. Experience Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with proficiency in dental assisting duties. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control procedures, and aseptic techniques. Experience with digital imaging including 3D scanners and X-ray equipment. Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices is preferred. Prior use of dental practice management software such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic or similar EMR systems is highly desirable. Certification or licensing as an EFDA or equivalent is required; additional certifications in pediatric dentistry or advanced procedures are a plus. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards is essential for maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance.
