We are looking for a part time hygienist for our amazing Dental office in Downtown Safety Harbor! We already have an amazing team however we are in need of another hygienist on Mondays and Thursdays. Mondays 9am to 5pm and Thursdays 8am to 5pm. Please reach out if you feel this would be a good fit for you. We look forward to hearing from you. Job Description Duties: Perform the usual and customary chairside procedures of a dental hygienist such as scaling and root planning, fluoride treatments and application of sealants, showing care and concern for patients' welfare and comfort at all times. Update/confirm patient health history at each appointment in clinical notes. Takes and develop any necessary radiographs assist in recalls and NP exams with correctness and full chart notes. Chart existing restorations and missing teeth as needed before doctor comes in for exam. Gather appropriate periodontal information (probing, bleeding, etc.). Communicates findings to the patient and the dentist. Provide oral hygiene instructions to patients, individualized to the patient needs, communicating as effectively as possible and using any visual aids necessary. Fill out Hygiene Info Sheet for each appointment after all data collection is completed and takes it to doctor to prepare for hygiene check later in the appointment. Provide doctor with appropriate handoff in front of patient, communicating problem areas, treatment needs that have been discussed with patient. Assist and charts for he Doctor's portion of the hygiene examination. Communicate effectively any treatment needs per the Doctor treatment plan, segmenting the needed appointments and documenting this on the treatment plan prior. Discuss any unfinished, previously diagnosed treatment with the patient. Communicates to the patient what their needs are, what it will take to gain optimum oral health and what will happen if the treatment is not performed Provide patient with printed handouts showing their treatment needs, including periodontal charting, treatment plan and educational materials Communicate clearly to patients any pre-op or post-op instructions per Doctor orders Schedule patient for the appropriate recare appointment, for FMD, Scaling in presence cleaning schedule 6 weeks out for follow up a must or handoff to front to schedule. .Emphasizing the importance of seeing results. Escort the patient to the front desk and do a handoff with the next team member, discussing treatment performed today, future treatment and appointments needed, any pertinent financial quotations from the doctor, etc. Document completely and accurately in patient clinic notes any treatment performed as well as notation of anything else concerning the patient visit to the office Utilize technology (intra-oral camera, patient education etc.) as appropriate. Including intraoral when probing bleeding points on probing ( if need assistance asking for for probing entering or pic help. Use appropriate verbal skills to educate and motivate your patients. Perform Chart Audits daily for patients scheduled the next business day. A must - ask Dr for any questions. Consistently follow all OSHA guidelines and Universal Precautions regarding infection control and safe. Maintain a clean and uncluttered appearance in the operatories. Sharpen the hygiene instruments and see that instruments are ordered as needed. Maintain equipment according to manufacturer guidelines Assist clinical staff with tasks such as sterilization or hygiene inventory control when needed and any other clinical tasks. Participate in team huddles Participate in any marketing programs when appropriate, asking for reviews, talks about telling patient stories of visits, past history with dentistry. The registered dental hygienist is the primary preventive practitioner in the office. Excellent patient education and motivation is as important as providing treatment. It is essential to recognize early signs of periodontal disease so that proactive treatment can be initiated to arrest the disease and prevent more severe involvement. Finding new areas of breakdown along with thorough documentation, both periodontally and restoratively, will facilitate the dentists' diagnosis and subsequent treatment recommendations. Associate degree or bachelor degree from an accredited school with a current state license and at least one year experience in dealing with the public in a consumer services area that requires excellent phone skills and greeting people in person. CPR and first aid training, as well as knowledge of radiation safety, is mandatory. * OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES Ability to calm and reassure patients facing uncomfortable or painful dental procedures. Ability to take clear x-rays and interpret. Ability to be consistently punctual and reliable in attendance. Ability to work safely and follow established safety and office procedures. * PHYSICAL DEMAND: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: Regularly required to: Sit on dental chairs or stools up to 1 hour at a time for a total of 8 hours per day while performing hygiene services. Use hands and wrists to finger, handle, grasp, or feel objects such as dental instruments, pens or pencils Reach with arms while assisting or retrieving materials Use wrists and finger dexterity while performing prophylaxis; Twist the head and torso; Rotate wrist during prophylaxis; Hear instructions, equipment notice/alarm bells such as sterilization equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to: Bend at the waist while performing services or to get supplies. Squat, stoop or kneel momentarily when retrieving supplies; Talk with patients, dentists, and co-workers on the telephone and in person. Stand on carpeted floors intermittently for a total of 2 hours. Push/pull up to 30 pounds when moving monitor on cart to operatories; Climb ladder 24 inches to retrieve files and supplies. * PSYCHOLOGICAL DEMANDS: The psychological demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
