Dental Hygienist - State of West Virginia - Morgantown, WV

Job Overview The Monongalia County Health Department Dentistry department is currently seeking a temporary dental hygienist. This position will be starting in January 2026 for about 12 weeks with the possibility of becoming a permanent part time position. Duties Perform thorough dental cleanings and periodontal treatments, utilizing aseptic techniques. Conduct patient assessments, including taking vital signs and reviewing medical histories. Utilize dental terminology effectively to communicate with patients and staff regarding procedures and care. Assist in chairside procedures, including four-handed dentistry, while ensuring patient comfort. Document patient records accurately using EMR systems, maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations. Provide education to patients on oral hygiene practices and preventive care. Collaborate with the dental team to develop treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs. Maintain infection control protocols and ensure a clean, organized work environment. Stay updated on advancements in pediatric dentistry and general dentistry practices. Familiarity with medical imaging techniques and medical terminology is essential. Strong understanding of anatomy knowledge related to dental health and infection control practices. Ability to perform documentation review accurately and efficiently, including medical coding when necessary. Excellent patient care skills with an emphasis on providing a positive experience for patients of all ages, particularly in pediatrics. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with patients and team members. Certification as a Dental Hygienist with an active state license is required.
