Essential Functions Greet patients, prepare them for services and make them comfortable during care Complete a prophylaxis including the removal of calculus, plaque, and stains from the teeth and beneath the gums Visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease Conduct an extra oral exam to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate the presence of disease Apply fluoride and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay Apply sealants Chart conditions of decay and disease as requested by the dentist in the electronic patient record Obtain quality digital x-rays Provide clinical services and oral health education to patients, their caregivers and families to improve and maintain oral health Completely and accurately conduct a caries risk assessment and follow up with Best Care Program motivational interview Accurately post transactions in the computer system May administer local anesthetic agents Disinfect, clean, and sterilize work area and instruments Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of autoclaves and other equipment Follow the infection control protocol as outlined by OSHA Attend hygiene meetings and all scheduled staff meetings Review patient chart and medical history forms Assist with stocking supplies, general cleaning, and sharpening instruments Scheduling recall and sealant appointments Conducting hygiene education and/or screenings for daycare, schools, and office tours Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Mon - Thurs; 7:30 am - 5:00 pm | Fri; 7:30 am - 1:30 pm Job Type: Full time Valid State of Wisconsin Dental Hygiene License CPR certification One year of dental hygiene experience preferred One year of experience working with or caring for children preferred Strong customer service skills and commitment to patient/parent satisfaction Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with and educate parents Must be able to communicate with coworkers and work as a team in order to maintain a steady flow and accommodate patients scheduled within the hygiene department as well as other aspects of the office Good time management skills Exceptional behavior management skills or willingness to learn Good hand/eye coordination, manual dexterity and precision Basic computer and data entry skills Familiarity with Dentrix Ascend and Kodak Imaging helpful.
