Duties Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to develop personalized care plans. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, dietary habits, and preventive care strategies to promote lifelong dental health. Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring accurate documentation within electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix. Maintain strict infection control protocols using aseptic techniques to safeguard patient safety and comply with HIPAA regulations. Review and update medical records, ensuring accurate documentation of treatments, patient interactions, and medical coding for billing purposes. Monitor vital signs before procedures and recognize signs of medical emergencies, escalating concerns appropriately. Support pediatric dentistry by creating a comfortable environment for young patients and applying specialized pediatric dental procedures when needed. Uphold all dental terminology standards and ensure compliance with infection control practices to maintain a safe clinical environment. Qualifications Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice. Proven experience in general dentistry with a strong background in dental assisting, medical records management, and documentation review. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for efficient patient data management. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control procedures, and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice. Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices is highly desirable to effectively serve young patients. Ability to perform chairside assisting confidently while maintaining excellent patient care standards. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and medical coding practices related to dental services.
