Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our reputable dental practice. The ideal candidate will support the clinical team by providing exceptional chairside assistance, ensuring infection control, and maintaining accurate medical documentation. This role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, utilizing advanced dental technology and contributing to patient care across general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics. Prior experience with Open Dental is valued. The position requires a strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and infection control protocols to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and comfort.
Duties
- Assist dentists during various procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric treatments
- Operate and manage dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners while adhering to HIPAA regulations
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies using aseptic techniques
- Take vital signs and medical history of patients prior to procedures
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation using PMS systems like Open Dental
- Perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency
- Ensure infection control standards are strictly followed through proper sterilization and disinfection procedures
- Provide patient education on oral health care and post-treatment instructions
- Support administrative tasks including scheduling appointments and managing patient flow as a dental receptionist when needed
- Assist with medical coding for insurance claims and billing processes
- Maintain knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dental practice
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a clinical setting with knowledge of general dentistry procedures
- Proficiency in PMS systems such as Open Dental, Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic or similar platforms
- Familiarity with dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to perform chairside assisting in various specialties including Oral Surgery and general dentistry
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, medical documentation, medical records management, and medical coding practices
- Certification in radiography or X-ray certification preferred but not mandatory depending on state requirements
- Excellent communication skills with a compassionate approach to patient care
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment while managing multiple responsibilities
