Provides direct assistance to the dentist and dental hygienist during all dental treatment procedures, in accordance with North Carolina Dental Laws. Supports in both administrative and clinical duties including: the delivery of preventive, restorative, cosmetic, and emergency dental care to eligible children, adolescents, and adults. Work is performed under the direct and indirect supervision of the Dentist, and Hygienist when dentist is not available. This position will provide patient and practice support services, including, but not limited to, personal assistance, medical attention and emotional support. Examples of Duties Examples of Duties Assists the Dentist with all treatment procedures. Examines patients' oral condition, and charts existing teeth and restorations. Assists with x-rays, scanning, and mounting of radiographs. Prepares instrument tray for examination and procedures; prepares medications, cements, alloys, etc. Provides patients with information about oral healthcare. Operate and maintain various dental equipment, including but not limited to, evacuation systems, curing lights, autoclaves, ultrasonic scalers, panorex machines, portable x-ray devices, Assistina, hygiene handpieces, air and water syringes, Intraoral scanner and patient chairs. Assists dentist with any clinical care needs. Assists patients with completing required paperwork; develops patient information packets. Coordinates with specialistâs offices, physician and external providers for referral, medical clearance and other required communications. Clean and disinfect patient treatment rooms between appointments to maintain a sterile and safe environment. Clean, sterilize, and organize dental instruments in compliance with infection control protocols. Maintain and perform routine checks on dental equipment, including suction lines, to ensure proper functionality and hygiene. Prepares reports, correspondence, and various documentation as needed. Maintain organized and up-to-date files and records. Accurately enter and manage patient data in the Dentrix system. Order office and clinical supplies; monitor inventory levels and restock as necessary. Schedule patient appointments and screen for eligibility. Manage patient records and assist patients in completing necessary forms. Develop and distribute patient information packets. Verify insurance coverage and submit prior authorizations. Assists in conducting required Audits. Performs any other duties as assigned to support clinic operations and patient care. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of County and Department policies and procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable local and State laws, rules, and regulations. Thorough knowledge of the equipment, instruments, practices, and procedures utilized in a general dentistry practice and ability to provide routine equipment maintenance. Ability to actively prove hand instruments and material as needed to dentist during exams and procedures in order to help maintain patient comfort and Dentistâs efficiency. Take and record medical and Dental histories and vital signs of patients. Record treatment information in patient records. Thorough knowledge of preparing reports and other types of correspondence. Thorough knowledge of the use of standard office equipment and associated software (e.g. Dentrix, Dexis, NC Tracks). Using and maintaining hazard control protocols as established by OSHA and office standards. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages. Ability to maintain effective working relationships, medical officials, patients, and associates. License or Certification Requirements: Obtain Intraoral Radiology, Coronal Polish, Sterilization/Infection Control/OSHA, ICS 100, IS 200, 700 and 800 certifications or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. Complete Dental Office Emergencies, Chairside Dental Assistant and Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse & Neglect training or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. Valid NC driver's license. The County currently pays 100% of the cost for regular employees working at least 30 hours per week. Dependent coverage is also available.
