Registered Dental Hygienist - Prosper Dental Health - Prosper, TX

Position Summary The primary purpose of the Dental Hygienist is to provide exceptional preventive and periodontal care while supporting the overall health and well-being of our patients. Responsibilities include performing periodontal assessments, taking appropriate radiographs, providing prophylaxis and periodontal therapy, conducting oral cancer screenings, maintaining accurate clinical records, and ensuring compliance with infection control standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical Care Perform prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing, and other hygiene procedures within the scope of practice. Conduct annual periodontal charting and spot probing at each hygiene appointment. Evaluate periodontal health and recommend appropriate cleaning intervals and recall frequencies to the doctor. Obtain diagnostic radiographs according to office protocols and maintain dental radiography equipment. Perform oral cancer screenings and document findings. Collect and review medical and dental histories, medications, allergies, and vital signs. Take and record blood pressure at every appointment. Assist dentists in managing medical or dental emergencies when necessary. Review clinical findings with the dentist and assist in treatment planning discussions. Provide patient education regarding oral hygiene, periodontal health, and preventive care. Apply Debacterol to ulcers as directed by the dentist. Place sealants as prescribed by the dentist. Set up and monitor nitrous oxide after the dentist initiates gas flow. Infection Control and Equipment Maintenance Follow all infection control and OSHA guidelines. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and treatment rooms. Break down and prepare treatment rooms between patients. Ensure instruments, handpieces, and Cavitron tips are functioning properly. Sharpen instruments as needed. Flush dental unit water lines weekly. Monitor supply levels and communicate ordering needs promptly. Patient Appointment Protocol Review health history, medications, and allergies. Take blood pressure. Obtain radiographs according to office guidelines: Annual radiographs as indicated Panoramic radiograph every five years Intraoral photographs as needed Perform appropriate hygiene treatment: D1110 – Adult Prophylaxis D4346 – Scaling in Presence of Generalized Moderate or Severe Gingival Inflammation D4341/D4342 – Scaling and Root Planing Provide oral hygiene instruction and patient education.
