Position Summary
The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality chairside support during dental procedures while also contributing to a smooth and welcoming patient experience throughout the office. In addition to clinical duties, this role includes patient coordination, scheduling support, insurance assistance, and general office responsibilities as directed. The ideal candidate is organized, personable, and comfortable in both clinical and patient-facing settings.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist chairside during exams, fillings, extractions, crowns, and other procedures
- Prepare and sterilize instruments; set up and break down operatories before and after each appointment
- Take digital dental X-rays (periapical, bitewing, and panoramic)
- Pour and trim study models; take impressions as directed by the dentist
- Seat patients, review health history updates, and ensure patient comfort throughout treatment
- Maintain accurate clinical notes and chart documentation in the practice management software
- Follow all OSHA and CDC infection control and sterilization protocols
- Monitor clinical supply levels and alert the office manager when restocking is needed
Patient Coordination & Office Responsibilities
- Welcome patients upon arrival and assist with a smooth, efficient check-in and check-out process
- Answer incoming calls and assist with appointment scheduling and confirmation
- Support other patient-facing and administrative tasks as directed
Qualifications & Requirements
- Dental Assistant diploma or certificate from an accredited program — required
- Current California Dental Radiography (X-ray) certificate — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification — required
- Minimum 1 year of dental assisting experience preferred; new graduates with strong externship experience are welcome to apply
- Prior patient coordination or dental administrative experience is a plus
- Familiarity with dental practice management software (Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar)
- Basic understanding of dental insurance verification and billing
- Friendly, professional, and dependable — you will be a key part of the patient experience
- Able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, well-organized office environment
- Bilingual skills are a plus but not required
