Are you interested in getting more candidates applying for your job?

Writing a great dental job post can be the difference between attracting lots of talent, or no talent--attracting an average candidate or the best one.

It’s all too easy to look at what other employers have done and just copy it.

Standing out requires time and effort.

We talked about this last week when we discussed how to write a title for your job post. When every job posting looks exactly the same, there’s no way for candidates to determine why they should apply to your job over those other jobs.

Before we talk about how to write a great dental job post, let’s cover what a job post is.

What is a Job Post?

When an employer is looking to hire an employee, they’ll typically post a job to a job board or website like Princess Dental Staffing.com. This lets job seekers know the company is looking to hire and what it is they’re hiring for.

Questions a job post should answer

  1. What position is the company hiring for?
  2. What are the skills needed for this job?
  3. Who will this person report to?
  4. Who will this person work with?
  5. What type of culture does the office have?
  6. What type of person will fit well in this culture?
  7. What is the pay?
  8. What are the benefits?
  9. Are there other perks?
  10. Are there opportunities for advancement?

Tips for Writing a Great Job Post

Writing a great job post comes down to just a few tips--like understanding your office, its needs, and then tailoring the job post to attract the talent you need.

Research the Competition

Knowing what the current job market looks like can be a great first step in writing your job posting that attracts just the right candidates.

If another office is offering a higher salary and better compensation package, you need to know and position your office competitively.

Start by taking a look at the jobs posted on Princess Dental Staffing. What are the job titles, descriptions, and compensation packages?

Maybe you want to take a look at other dental jobs on free dental job boards and sites like Indeed, CareerBuilder, or Monster.

We can incorporate ideas from competitors without copying them completely. In fact, don’t copy them at all. But use them as a baseline for understanding more about the current job market.

Job Title

We covered the topic of writing a great job title last week, with some great examples and a video too.

To recap, your job title needs to be short, creative, professional and make use of keywords.\

Job Description

Writing a good job description may vary by position.

For example, we covered the topic of a dental hygienist job description and dentist job description in detail.

We also provided some examples of dental assistant job postings

A good description of the job will provide candidates with an understanding of what they’ll be doing at your office, and what their experience may look like.

Market Yourself

Just like you have to market yourself to new patients, you have to market yourself to your staff.

Share information that makes the job attractive to candidates.

According to PeopleKeep, some of the most important benefits employees look for include health benefits, paid time off (PTO), a flexible schedule, and education benefits.

Or course, Forbes has their own opinion about what you need

Maybe it’s emphasizing your company culture. If it’s important to you, put it out there.

Whatever you decide, market the job to your future staff just like you would market your office to new patients.

The Anatomy of a Job Post

Every dental job post should have similar segments. These include the job title, description, duties, skills, education, experience, qualifications, and a way to apply. Include each section to assure your job covers all the needed information to help candidates find and apply to your job.
