Who We're Looking For

Responsibilities

• Key duties of a dental hygienist:

  • Patient assessment: Review patient health history, conduct oral cancer screenings, and assess periodontal health. 
     
  • Dental prophylaxis: Perform professional cleanings by scaling and polishing teeth to remove plaque and tartar. 
     
  • Radiography: Take and develop dental X-rays to identify potential issues. 
     
  • Oral hygiene education: Teach patients proper brushing and flossing techniques, dietary advice, and other oral hygiene practices. 
     
  • Fluoride application: Apply fluoride treatments to help prevent tooth decay. 
     
  • Periodontal charting: Record the condition of gum tissue and document periodontal disease. 
     
  • Patient communication: Discuss findings with patients, address concerns, and provide treatment recommendations. 
     
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed patient records, including treatment plans and progress notes. 
     
  • Infection control: Adhere to strict sterilization and infection control protocols. 
     

  Skills and qualifications for a dental hygienist:

  • Dental hygiene license: Must be licensed by the state to practice dental hygiene. 
     
  • Strong clinical skills: Proficient in performing dental cleanings, taking X-rays, and applying topical treatments. 
     
  • Excellent communication skills: Ability to clearly explain oral hygiene practices to patients and answer their questions. 
     
  • Attention to detail: Accurate charting and meticulous cleaning techniques are crucial. 
     
  • Patient care skills: Ability to build rapport with patients and manage anxiety.
