Dental Hygienist - West Virginia Veterans Upward Bound - Blacksville, WV

GENERAL: A full-time position for an Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. Clinical supervision is provided by the dentists. The Dental Hygienist is directly responsible to the Dental Director. JOB DUTIES (INCLUDES, BUT NOT LIMITED TO): 1. Provide new patient examinations prior to referral to the dentist if needed. 2. Expose radiographs. 3. Provide prophylaxis and fluoride treatments. 4. Provide scaling and root planing. 5. Provide local anesthesia with appropriate permit. 6. Do pit and fissure sealants. 7. Give instructions on oral hygiene. 8. Maintain the recall system. 9. Clean/sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment. 10. Work closely with the dentists and assistants on patient consultations and preparing treatment plans. 11. Maintain a clean operatory and equipment. 12. Adheres to OSHA, emergency preparedness, infection control and regulatory guidelines. 13. Assist receptionist occasionally in answering phones and making appointments. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Dental office environment. Multi-task oriented position may require sitting or standing for long periods. May involve contact with angry, upset, or ill persons. Will involve potential exposure to blood and body fluids and other hazardous substances. Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to assist with procedures, and interface with the computer. Must have auditory acuity to handle phone calls and extensive patient interaction. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE: The Dental Hygienist must be responsible, have good interpersonal skills, good organizational skills, and excellent communication skills. Must have the ability to gain confidence and cooperation of patients. Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees. Must have pleasant demeanor when relating to patients in a businesslike manner. Must have accurate typing skills. Experience as a dental hygienist is preferred.
