Orthodontic Assistant Airway-Focused Orthodontic Practice The Orthodontic Assistant provides direct patient care through doctor-guided appointments and four-handed dentistry in an airway-focused orthodontic practice. This position supports orthodontic treatment, airway evaluations, TMJ therapy, sleep-related breathing disorder treatment, and delivers an exceptional patient experience. Key Responsibilities: 1. Patient Care & Support Assist patients before, during, and after treatment procedures to ensure their comfort and well-being. Obtain and review patient medical histories and provide treatment, procedure, and post-operative instructions. Prepare patients for examinations and assist with impressions, bite registrations, and other diagnostic procedures. Maintain a sterile, organized clinical environment while following all infection control protocols. 2. Clinical Assistance Assist with diagnostic and treatment procedures, including appliance fittings, insertions, adjustments, and bite analysis. Assist in the fabrication, adjustment, and delivery of appliances, including Essix retainers, nightguards, splints, and other therapeutic devices. Take high-quality digital X-rays, CBCT scans, and other diagnostic images required for diagnosis and treatment planning. Slice CBCT scans and upload images to Cloud9. Prepare and manage materials, instruments, and equipment used for orthodontic, airway, TMJ, and sleep-related treatments. Type clinical notes for the doctors during all appointments, including consultations. Enter information from the Summary, Diagnosis & Treatment Plan form into the Cloud9 New Patient Exam Questionnaire. Take high-quality orthodontic photographs and upload images into Cloud9. Take impressions or intraoral scans. Pour study models when needed. Perform a warm hand-off by escorting patients to the front desk and reviewing the checkout sheet and next appointment instructions. 3. Laboratory Case Management Submit complete records and prescriptions to laboratories for appliance fabrication. Document all incoming laboratory cases. Communicate with the administrative team regarding any laboratory delays that may affect scheduled appointments. 4. Patient Education & Communication Clearly explain treatment procedures, home care instructions, and post-treatment recommendations. Help patients and families understand orthodontic, airway, TMJ, and sleep-related treatment plans. Educate patients on maintaining excellent oral hygiene throughout treatment. Provide compassionate, professional care that creates a positive and welcoming patient experience. 5. Administrative Support Assist with scheduling appointments and maintaining efficient patient flow. Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation in compliance with office policies and regulatory requirements. Support treatment coordination by organizing patient records and responding to patient inquiries as needed. 6. Sterilization, Maintenance & Inventory Sterilize and maintain all clinical instruments and equipment. Clean and prepare treatment rooms between patients. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly operatory and equipment maintenance. Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering clinical supplies as needed. Requirements Minimum of 2 years of orthodontic assisting experience preferred. Knowledge of digital radiography, CBCT imaging, and intraoral scanning preferred. Experience with Cloud9 Orthodontic Software is highly preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Professional, calm, and friendly demeanor under pressure.
