Permanent Dental Assistant Job in San Jose, CA

Temp or Temp to Hire/Permanent
Precision. Anticipation. A little personality.
We’re looking for a highly skilled Surgical Dental Assistant to join our team.
This is not your average dental assisting position. We perform periodontal surgery, implant placement, extractions, sinus lifts, IV sedation, and advanced implant procedures, and we’re looking for someone who understands that great surgical assisting is about being one step ahead of the doctor—not waiting to be told what to do.
If you know your instruments, understand surgical setups, can anticipate the doctor’s next move, and actually enjoy working with dental technology, we should talk.
THE MISSION
Be the Doctor’s Right Hand
Know the procedure. Know the setup. Know the instruments. Anticipate what’s coming next. Pass the right instrument before the doctor has to ask for it. Basically, make the doctor wonder how they ever operated without you.
Own the Surgical Suite
Prepare and break down surgical rooms with confidence. Maintain impeccable sterilization and aseptic technique. Know your surgical trays and where everything belongs. A perfectly prepared room is your happy place.
Think Two Steps Ahead
Great surgical assistants don’t just react—they anticipate. You’ll need to recognize the stage of the procedure, understand what the doctor is doing, and have the next instrument, material, or piece of equipment ready before it’s requested.
Be a Technology Enthusiast
We like our technology almost as much as we like our surgical instruments. You should be comfortable with—or excited to learn—CBCT, digital radiographs, intraoral scanning, CAD/CAM technology, digital charting, and advanced surgical technology. Dentrix experience is a definite plus.
Be the Patient’s Calm in the Storm
Surgery can make people nervous. You’ll help patients feel informed, comfortable, and cared for before, during, and after treatment. A reassuring smile and a good sense of humor go a long way.
Sedation Sidekick
Assist with IV sedation and surgical procedures while keeping a close eye on the patient, the doctor, and the details. Safety and attention to detail are non-negotiable.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- OMSA, Registered Dental Assistant, or experienced Dental Assistant
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and surgical setups
- Oral surgery, periodontal, or implant experience strongly preferred
- Ability to anticipate the doctor’s needs and next move
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and clinical awareness
- Comfortable assisting with complex surgical procedures
- IV sedation experience is a major plus
- Comfortable with digital technology and electronic records
- Experience with CBCT, digital imaging, intraoral scanning, or CAD/CAM is a plus
- Dentrix experience is helpful—or at least a willingness to become fluent
- Excellent communication and patient-care skills
- Organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to stay calm when things get busy
- A sense of humor is highly encouraged
- Showing up on time is even more encouraged
The ideal candidate...
...can walk into a surgical room, look at the procedure on the schedule, and already know how the room should be set up, what instruments are going to be needed, what materials should be ready, and what the doctor is likely to ask for next.
You don't need to know everything on day one. But you do need to be curious, teachable, confident, and genuinely interested in becoming exceptional at surgical assisting.
